Nestled between the blurred lines of west Asia and the Middle East, the post-USSR country Armenia is a country that few people know much about. I was one of them before my visit. I didn't know anything at all. A writer and old friend of mine and I visited from September to October 2025. The writer, who had spent two weeks there before, told me some things about the country and the culture before the trip. I still had no idea what to expect. It didn't take long however to notice that it's an interesting and beautiful place to be. I found the Armenians to be generous, helpful, serious and resilient. The Armenian hospitality was a constant throughout the trip, and they were keen to teach us about the country's situation. Their few allies, wars, sad history and political corruption were a big part of it, but the pride was still shining through. The future of Armenia is uncertain. The peace deal between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the newly broken friendship with Russia, and the economy being affected by having few allies and while also being a landlocked country. Who knows how all that will turn out.
The goal of this trip for me eventually became to show and tell quite broadly about Armenia. Its culture, history, people, nature and way of living. I want to bring this small, relatively unknown but beautiful country into the spotlight, to tell their story in a summarised way through my photographs. They truly deserve to be seen and also known.
